San Diego, CA (August 24, 2025) – A 19-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries early Saturday morning, August 23, after crashing into another vehicle on Carmel Valley Road, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The crash was reported just after 12:15 a.m. in the 15000 block of Carmel Valley Road. Police said the teen was driving a Honda Civic eastbound at a high rate of speed when the vehicle veered onto the south sidewalk. He lost control, struck a tree in the center median, and then collided with a westbound Honda Accord.
The Civic driver was ejected from his car and suffered severe brain injuries along with multiple fractures. Emergency crews transported him to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. The 18-year-old driver of the Accord was also taken to a hospital, though his injuries were not disclosed.
Investigators confirmed that alcohol was a factor in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
Our thoughts are with both young men injured in this devastating collision. We hope for their full recovery.
Driving under the influence remains one of the most dangerous threats on California roadways. Alcohol impairs judgment, slows reaction times, and greatly increases the likelihood of losing control, particularly at high speeds. On roads like Carmel Valley Road, where curves, medians, and heavy traffic are common, impaired driving can quickly lead to catastrophic accidents.
Collisions involving DUI often cause life-altering injuries such as brain trauma, spinal damage, and multiple fractures. Victims may face long hospital stays, surgeries, and months of rehabilitation. Beyond the physical pain, families also experience financial hardship from medical expenses and the emotional toll of supporting a loved one through recovery. In severe cases, victims may never fully regain their independence, requiring lifelong care and assistance. These challenges can leave entire households struggling to adjust to a new reality after a single reckless decision.
California law allows DUI crash victims to pursue compensation for their losses. This may include medical costs, lost wages, and damages for pain and suffering. Acting quickly is important to protect legal rights and ensure accountability.
