Yolo County, CA (October 22, 2025) – Authorities responded to a serious pedestrian-involved collision on Tuesday evening, October 21, on northbound Interstate 5 near the Yolo Causeway. According to California Highway Patrol (CHP) dispatch reports, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while traveling along the interstate, prompting an immediate emergency response from officers and medical personnel.
Units from the CHP Woodland Division were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of a person down on the roadway. Upon arrival, first responders located the injured pedestrian along the shoulder of northbound I-5. Paramedics provided medical aid and began Advanced Life Support (ALS) treatment before transporting the victim to a nearby hospital. The condition of the injured individual has not yet been disclosed.
Officers closed portions of the northbound lanes to allow emergency crews to operate safely and to conduct an initial investigation. The area surrounding the Yolo Causeway remained partially restricted for an extended period as responders documented the crash site and cleared the roadway of debris.
Investigators are currently working to determine the circumstances that led to the pedestrian being on the interstate and the sequence of events that resulted in the collision. No information regarding the driver or vehicle involved has been released, and no arrests have been reported at this time.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the incident. Further updates are expected once the investigation concludes.
Our thoughts are with the injured individual, and we wish them a full and swift recovery.
Pedestrian-involved incidents on major highways such as Interstate 5 are rare but often severe due to high travel speeds and limited reaction times for drivers. The Yolo Causeway area, a heavily traveled corridor connecting Yolo and Sacramento Counties, is particularly hazardous for non-vehicle occupants due to narrow shoulders and restricted access points.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, pedestrian fatalities and serious injuries on state highways have risen in recent years, with a significant number occurring during nighttime or low-visibility conditions. Many of these accidents involve individuals attempting to cross or walk along interstate corridors not designed for pedestrian access.
Motorists are urged to remain vigilant when driving at night or through dimly lit areas, while pedestrians are strongly advised to avoid highways and utilize designated crossings or safe routes when available. Enhanced roadway lighting and enforcement continue to play critical roles in reducing pedestrian-related crashes on major interstates.
Victims of highway collisions often face extensive medical care, prolonged recovery periods, and financial challenges following such events. Accessing the right support and understanding one’s legal rights can help ensure appropriate steps toward recovery.
