Pedestrian accidents continue to pose a serious risk in Whittier, particularly along busy corridors such as Whittier Boulevard, where both commercial and residential traffic is frequent. According to data from the California Office of Traffic Safety, Los Angeles County consistently reports some of the highest numbers of pedestrian injuries and fatalities in the state, many occurring at intersections and mid-block crossings.
Common contributing factors in pedestrian collisions include distracted driving, failure to yield at crosswalks, poor lighting, and high traffic speeds. Even low-impact collisions can cause severe injuries, such as fractures, internal bleeding, or head trauma. Victims frequently endure long recovery periods, mounting medical bills, and emotional distress following these incidents. In more severe cases, such accidents can also lead to permanent disability or chronic pain that affects daily living.
Under California law, pedestrians injured due to driver negligence are entitled to seek compensation for medical costs, rehabilitation, lost income, and pain and suffering. However, obtaining fair compensation often requires experienced legal representation to handle insurance negotiations, gather evidence, and establish liability.
