Tracy, CA (September 26, 2025) – Authorities have identified the victim of a fatal crash on Interstate 580 near Tracy as 66-year-old men, a local resident. The collision, which occurred early Sunday morning, is being investigated as a suspected DUI incident.
According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash took place around 4:45 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of I-580, just west of the Grant Line Road exit. Investigators said a 21 year old Stockton man driving a Honda Accord rear ended a Tesla Model Y operated by him.
The impact left him with fatal injuries, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency responders transported the Honda driver to Valley Care Medical Center in Pleasanton with moderate injuries.
Authorities later arrested the driver on suspicion of driving under the influence. After being medically cleared, he was booked into Santa Rita Jail. CHP officers closed parts of the freeway during the investigation and crash reconstruction.
The CHP confirmed the case remains under active investigation.

Driving under the influence continues to be one of the leading causes of fatal car accidents in California. According to state traffic safety data, hundreds of people are killed each year in DUI-related crashes. These accidents are often severe because intoxicated drivers have slower reaction times, poor judgment, and are more likely to cause high-speed collisions.
Interstate 580, which runs through the East Bay and San Joaquin Valley, sees heavy commuter and freight traffic daily. In early morning hours, visibility and fatigue can already pose risks for drivers. When alcohol or drugs are involved, the danger rises significantly.
Victims of DUI accidents, like this victim, often have no chance to react or protect themselves. For surviving family members, these crashes bring sudden grief and long-lasting emotional and financial hardship.
When a crash involves impaired driving, victims and their families may pursue claims through a wrongful death attorney. Legal action can hold reckless drivers accountable and help families recover damages such as:
Funeral and burial expenses
Loss of companionship and support
Medical costs incurred before death
Pain and suffering endured by loved ones
In addition, criminal charges such as DUI or vehicular manslaughter may proceed separately. However, civil claims ensure families have a path to financial recovery regardless of the criminal outcome.
