Shingle Springs, CA - Serious Injuries After House Fire on Lonesome Dove Ct

Shingle Springs, CA (March 2, 2025) – An El Dorado County Fire Protection District fire captain was seriously injured on Thursday while responding to a house fire, the agency said on Sunday, March 2.

Around 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, fire crews went to a home on Lonesome Dove Court in Shingle Springs for a chimney fire. When firefighters arrived, they saw the fire had spread to the attic and began trying to extinguish the flames. The fire protection district said that fire conditions suddenly changed, and flames surrounded a fire captain and a firefighter who were inside the house.

The fire captain suffered serious burn injuries and was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center. He is now at the UC Davis Firefighters Burn Institute Regional Burn Center. He is in stable condition and continues to receive care for his serious injuries, the agency said. EMTs also assessed and transferred an unknown number of victims to an area hospital. Per officials, however, the investigation continues, and no further details were released.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their families at this time. We wish them a full and swift recovery.

Residential Fires in California

Residential and apartment fires can cause devastating injuries, leaving victims and their families grappling with physical, emotional, and financial challenges. For instance, in California, where densely populated apartment complexes are common, fire safety standards are critical to preventing tragedies. Unfortunately, negligence by landlords, property managers, or third parties can sometimes result in unsafe conditions that lead to fires and severe injuries.

Common causes of apartment fires include faulty wiring, lack of smoke detectors, blocked fire exits, and improperly maintained heating systems. When property owners or managers fail to uphold safety regulations, tenants and their loved ones are often left to bear the consequences. Injuries from apartment fires, such as burns, smoke inhalation, and traumatic injuries from escaping, can lead to significant medical expenses, lost wages, and long-term rehabilitation.

Victims of apartment fires in California may have legal options to recover damages. Property owners are required to comply with state and local fire codes, and a failure to do so may constitute negligence. In some cases, third parties, such as contractors or product manufacturers, may also share liability for unsafe conditions or defective equipment.
