San Mateo, CA - Fatal Vehicle Crash on Hayward Bridge at Hwy 92 Under Inquiry

San Mateo, CA (May 29, 2025) – A deadly crash took place on the eastbound side of the San Mateo-Hayward Bridge near the toll plaza parking lot on Tuesday morning, authorities said after releasing further details related to the incident on Thursday.

The California Highway Patrol said in a press release that the incident happened at about 7:10 a.m. and involved at least two vehicles. Emergency responders arrived and determined that one unidentified driver of a RAV4 had been killed. Eastbound Highway 92 lanes were closed after the crash for the subsequent investigation and reopened by 10:20 a.m., the CHP said.

The investigation remained ongoing, and no other information was disclosed. The Alameda County Coroner's Office will release the driver's identity in the coming days.
