Authorities are urging witnesses or anyone with information about the crash to come forward, however.
Our thoughts are with the injured victims and their loved ones in hopes of their fast recovery.
Hit-and-run accidents are a serious problem on California roads, and they leave victims dealing with not only physical injuries but also emotional distress and financial uncertainty. When a driver flees the scene of a crash without stopping to exchange information or assist the injured, it becomes a criminal offense under the California Vehicle Code.
These types of accidents can happen in a variety of settings—from busy freeways to quiet residential streets. They may involve other drivers, pedestrians, cyclists, or even parked vehicles. Regardless of the circumstances, the aftermath can be overwhelming, especially when the responsible party is nowhere to be found.
California law requires all drivers involved in an accident to stop and provide their name, address, and insurance details. Failure to do so may result in misdemeanor or felony charges, depending on the severity of the damage or injuries involved. Victims, meanwhile, are often left to navigate medical bills, lost wages, vehicle repairs, and emotional trauma on their own.
If you've been injured in a hit-and-run accident, it's important to act quickly. Report the incident to the police and seek immediate medical attention. Document everything you can—take photos, gather witness statements, and write down any details about the fleeing vehicle. The more information you can provide, the better the chances of identifying the driver and pursuing legal action.
Even if the hit-and-run driver isn’t located, you may still have options for compensation. Uninsured motorist coverage in your auto insurance policy can often help cover medical expenses and property damage in these cases. A legal professional can help you evaluate your policy and determine the best course of action.
