San Jose, CA - Pregnant Woman Killed in Car Crash on I-280 at Bird Ave

San Jose, CA (May 9, 2025) – A pregnant woman died following a car crash on Interstate 280 on Thursday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Two children who were also riding with the woman were not injured in the collision, which was reported in the southbound lanes approaching Bird Avenue, the CHP said in a Friday news release. The driver was thrown from her car and suffered serious injuries; she was rushed to nearby Valley Medical Center. She and her unborn child died at the hospital, the CHP said. Her name was not publicly released pending her formal identification and notification of next of kin by the Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
