San Joaquin, CA (May 7, 2025) – A bicyclist who died as a result of a hit-and-run early Monday morning in San Joaquin County has been identified.
Matthew Westberg, 55, of Galt, died after he was hit from behind by an unidentified vehicle around 4:30 a.m. along eastbound Jahant Road, east of Highway 99, according to the San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office. Westberg was knocked off his bicycle into an irrigation ditch and died from his injuries, the California Highway Patrol said.
The driver left the scene after the crash, authorities confirm. Anyone with information can call the CHP Stockton office as their investigation proceeds in the interim.
