San Diego, CA (October 28, 2025) – Authorities are investigating a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision that left one man seriously injured early Monday morning, October 27, at the intersection of Pacific Highway and Sassafras Street in San Diego’s Midtown area. The San Diego Police Department and emergency medical personnel responded to reports of a pedestrian struck at approximately 5:04 a.m.
According to preliminary details, a 75-year-old woman driving a 2020 Chrysler Pacifica was traveling southbound on Pacific Highway when her vehicle struck a male pedestrian under circumstances that are still under police investigation. The impact caused the pedestrian to sustain multiple serious injuries. Paramedics arrived shortly after the incident and transported the victim to a nearby hospital for advanced medical treatment. His current condition has not yet been released.
Officers from the San Diego Police Department’s Traffic Division secured the scene to collect evidence and document the collision. Traffic in the area was temporarily diverted while investigators examined the roadway and gathered witness statements. The driver involved remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the investigation.
Authorities have not yet determined whether impairment or speed played a role in the incident. The San Diego Police Department’s Collision Investigation Unit is continuing to review evidence to establish the contributing factors that led to the crash.
We wish the injured pedestrian a full and steady recovery.
Pedestrian collisions remain a significant concern throughout San Diego, particularly at intersections such as Pacific Highway and Sassafras Street, which experience consistent commuter and commercial traffic. Early morning and late-night conditions often reduce visibility, making it more difficult for drivers to detect pedestrians crossing outside designated crosswalks.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, San Diego County continues to report a substantial number of pedestrian-related injuries and fatalities each year. Factors such as driver distraction, speeding, and failure to yield are among the leading causes of these incidents. Safety officials urge both drivers and pedestrians to remain alert, follow traffic signals, and exercise caution, especially in high-traffic corridors.
For victims, pedestrian collisions often result in severe physical injuries and long recovery periods that may lead to significant financial strain. Legal representation can play an important role in helping injured individuals pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, and other damages associated with their recovery.
