San Benito, CA (August 21, 2025) – California Highway Patrol troopers reported that a pedestrian was killed after being hit by an unknown vehicle in the San Benito County area on Thursday morning, August 21.
The crash was reported as a crash that occurred between a vehicle and an adult man on Highway 156 and Buena Vista Road at around 6:40 p.m. CHP said they do not have a description of the vehicle that struck the pedestrian, and his identity will be released once the next of kin has been notified. However, the inquiry into the crash is still ongoing, and no further details have been released at this time. Witnesses were asked to contact CHP troopers if they had additional information related to the accident.
Our deepest condolences go out to the deceased victim's family members.
Leaving the scene after a crash without exchanging information is not only illegal but can also create extreme hardships for victims who need immediate help and insurance details. In some cases, drivers flee because they lack proper insurance, fear legal consequences, or are under the influence. The aftermath often leaves victims anxious about how to cover their medical bills and vehicle damage if the responsible party cannot be located.
Although law enforcement regularly investigates hit-and-run incidents, the search process can be lengthy unless a license plate or a clear vehicle description surfaces. Witnesses who capture photos or video of the fleeing car provide crucial leads. If the offending driver is eventually identified, they may face both civil liability and criminal charges. However, until the suspect is named, those injured may rely on their own insurance—such as uninsured motorist coverage—to manage expenses.
Injured parties seeking compensation may also consider a personal injury claim if there is sufficient evidence to prove who was at fault. Even if the driver remains unidentified, victims might explore other routes for financial recovery. For instance, many insurance policies have provisions for hit-and-run accidents, although these vary depending on coverage levels.
Thankfully, an experienced auto accident attorney can help victims navigate these challenges by investigating potential sources of compensation, coordinating with law enforcement, and advocating for fair treatment from insurance companies.
