Car Accidents in California

California sees hundreds of thousands of vehicle crashes every year, and Sacramento County continues to be one of the more affected regions due to its dense population and busy roadways. According to recent data, more than 250,000 people are injured on California roads each year, many in afternoon crashes during peak travel times.

In the aftermath of a crash, knowing how the insurance process works can help accident victims protect their interests. Here are key points to understand about injury claims:

  • Medical Expenses: After a crash, victims can pursue compensation for hospital visits, surgeries, therapy, and medications. Keeping all receipts and records is critical for a strong claim.
  • Lost Wages: If injuries prevent a person from working, they may be entitled to recover lost income. This also includes future earnings if long-term injuries reduce work capacity.
  • Pain and Suffering: Non-economic damages cover emotional distress, anxiety, and reduced quality of life caused by the crash. These damages vary by case and require proper documentation.
  • Comparative Fault: California follows a comparative fault system. Even if a victim is partially responsible, they may still recover compensation, though the amount may be reduced.
  • Time Limits: In California, most personal injury claims must be filed within two years. Missing this window could result in losing the right to compensation.
