Sacramento, CA (June 17, 2025) – Multiple people were injured after a car crashed into a Starbucks in Sacramento's Pocket neighborhood on Tuesday evening, June 17.
The Sacramento Police Department said officers responded to reports of a car crashing into a building on the 7600 block of Greenhaven Drive. Bystanders inside Starbucks had minor injuries due to broken glass, police said. The driver also had minor injuries. However, it's unclear if anybody was transported to the hospital. No further details regarding the circumstances of the collision or the identities of the patients were provided at the time.
Our thoughts are with those injured in this incident, and we hope for their quick recovery.
Cars crashing into buildings may seem rare, yet California’s packed highways and dense urban corridors make these incidents far more common than most people realize. When a vehicle plows through the wall of a house, shop, or office, the result can be instant chaos—shattering glass, collapsing masonry, and sending debris flying toward anyone in the vicinity.
Occupants inside the structure, along with drivers, passengers, or pedestrians nearby, can suffer devastating injuries ranging from broken bones and spinal trauma to burns and head wounds. Property damage is equally severe: caved-in walls, destroyed merchandise, and the displacement of families or businesses can trigger enormous financial strain.
A variety of circumstances can set off a vehicle-into-building crash. Excessive speed, impaired or distracted driving, and pedal-misapplication mishaps are common triggers. Mechanical failures, sudden medical emergencies behind the wheel, and flawed street designs—such as missing bollards, inadequate curbs, or weak façade barriers—can all magnify the danger.
California law gives anyone harmed in these collisions the right to pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost income, structural repairs, temporary relocation costs, and the emotional distress that follows such a traumatic event. Sorting out who is responsible, however, can be complicated. A driver’s negligence may be clear, but questions often arise about whether the property owner installed adequate safety features or whether a defective vehicle component, lax city planning, or poor roadway maintenance shared in the blame.
