Sacramento, CA - Man Arrested After Deadly DUI Collision at Hwys 36 & 395

Sacramento, CA (January 16, 2025) – Authorities released further details after a woman was killed and a 10-year-old girl was injured when a Sacramento man caused a five-vehicle crash that occurred in Lassen County on Tuesday morning.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) said the incident occurred on Highway 36, eastbound west of Highway 395, around 7:45 a.m. The suspect was speeding at a high rate and was unable to stop or slow down before the front of the vehicle impacted the other cars, said CHP.

CHP confirmed in a press release that a 47-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lassen County, Coroner and a 10-year-old girl in the same vehicle was transported by a helicopter to Renown Medical Center to be treated for major injuries. Other victims who were involved in the crash sustained minor injuries but were not transported to the hospital, officials said.

According to officials, the CHP arrested a 49-year-old man on multiple charges, including Driving Under the Influence. He has been booked into the Lassen County Jail. Details surrounding the collision remain under investigation, however. Authorities have asked witnesses to come forward with any relevant information.

We extend our deepest condolences to the deceased woman's family members. Our thoughts are also with those injured in this accident. We hope for a fast and complete recovery for all parties.

Major Car Accidents in California

California’s bustling highways and byways often have traffic collisions ranging from minor fender benders to serious crashes on major highways. These accidents can result in severe injuries, emotional trauma, and significant financial burdens for those involved. Understanding your legal options is critical to recovering compensation for your losses.

In California, fault-based laws hold negligent or reckless drivers accountable for damages caused in an accident. Victims may pursue compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, pain and suffering, and property damage. The state’s comparative negligence rule allows injured parties to recover compensation even if they are partially at fault, though their percentage of responsibility will reduce their recovery.

Taking immediate steps after an accident is essential. Documenting the scene, obtaining a police report, and seeking prompt medical attention can strengthen your claim. California law requires personal injury claims to be filed within two years of the accident, so acting quickly is critical to protecting your rights.

Collisions on high-speed highways often involve complex factors, including multiple vehicles, difficult-to-determine faults, and significant injuries. A skilled attorney can help investigate the accident, negotiate with insurance companies, and advocate for maximum compensation on your behalf.
