Sacramento, CA - Bus Riders Injured in Accident on Arden Way at Heritage Ln

Sacramento, CA (July 15, 2025) – Some roadways were closed after an alleged drunk driver crashed into a bus and several other vehicles on Tuesday night, July 15, according to the Sacramento Police Department

Around 7:30 p.m., SPD responded to an area near Arden Way and Heritage Lane for reports of a car crash. A Sacramento Regional Transit bus and two other vehicles had been hit. According to SPD, passenger injuries were reported; however, the current condition of those involved is unknown.

According to SPD, the crash is being investigated as a DUI and hit-and-run incident. That said, it's unclear if anybody else was hurt. No further details were released, but witnesses were asked to step forward.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims. We hope for their full recovery at this time.

Bus Accidents in California

Buses transport thousands of Californians each day on city routes, school pickups, charter tours, and corporate shuttles, but when one of these massive vehicles is involved in a crash, the results can be catastrophic. Due to their size, limited agility, and high passenger loads, even a relatively low-speed bus accident can lead to serious injuries for passengers, pedestrians, cyclists, and occupants of smaller vehicles.

These collisions are often the result of preventable issues: drowsy or distracted drivers, insufficient training, neglected vehicle maintenance, or dangerous road conditions like poor drainage or confusing traffic design. Bus accidents tend to involve multiple injured parties and a complex web of liability. Depending on the circumstances, responsibility may fall on the driver, their employer (whether a private company or a public agency), a maintenance provider, or even the government if poor road design or upkeep played a role. When a public transit system is involved, strict notice rules and filing deadlines apply—missing them could prevent you from bringing a claim.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a bus-related crash, prompt medical attention should be your top priority. Afterward, take steps to protect your rights. Gather available evidence—photos, witness names, and incident details. An experienced attorney can step in to access deeper layers of evidence, including onboard video footage, maintenance records, GPS logs, and driver hour-tracking data—all of which can be crucial to establishing liability.

California law allows injured victims to pursue compensation for a wide range of losses: medical expenses, future care needs, lost income, reduced earning ability, and the emotional distress that follows traumatic injuries. Thanks to the state’s comparative fault system, you can still recover compensation even if you were partially at fault—your final award will simply reflect your level of responsibility.
