Intersections are some of the most dangerous locations on California’s roadways. Whether located in crowded urban centers, sprawling suburbs, or along rural highways, these traffic junctions are frequent sites of serious and sometimes fatal crashes. The combination of vehicles converging from multiple directions—along with visibility issues, aggressive driving, and confusion over signals—creates a high-risk environment for motorists, cyclists, and pedestrians alike.
Common causes of intersection accidents include distracted driving, excessive speed, failure to yield, and disregarding traffic signals. Risky behaviors—such as attempting to "beat the light" or making hurried, unsafe left turns—significantly increase the likelihood of a collision.
Additional hazards, such as malfunctioning lights, blocked sightlines, and heavily trafficked pedestrian crosswalks, only heighten the danger, especially during rush hour or in densely populated neighborhoods.
The injuries resulting from intersection crashes are often severe. Victims may suffer from head trauma, spinal cord injuries, broken bones, internal damage, or other life-altering conditions. In the aftermath, individuals and families are often burdened by overwhelming medical expenses, extended recovery periods, lost income, and costly vehicle repairs.
Establishing liability in an intersection accident can be complex. When multiple vehicles are involved, witness accounts may conflict, and video evidence may be limited. Moreover, dangerous intersection design or poor roadway maintenance may also be contributing factors, potentially involving municipalities or third parties in the legal analysis. These factors make it critical to conduct a thorough investigation when pursuing compensation for injuries or losses.
