Redding, CA (May 7, 2025) – Redding California Highway Patrol officials confirmed that a collision on Whitmore Road resulted in the death of an Anderson motorcyclist on Monday.
CHP officials say the crash involved a 2004 Honda Civic and a 1999 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. A woman, 50-year-old Pamela Sutton, was driving westbound when her car drifted into the eastbound lane, colliding with the motorcycle.
The motorcycle's driver, a 45-year-old man from Anderson, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 41-year-old female passenger from Palo Cedro sustained major injuries and was airlifted to Mercy Medical Center in Redding. Sutton was checked for impairment and phone use, but neither appeared to be a factor in the crash. She reported pain from the collision. However, the CHP is investigating and urges any witnesses to contact their office.
Our deepest condolences go out to the family of the deceased victim.
Motorcycles grant riders agility and freedom on the road, yet they also lack the protective shell that cars provide. Even low-speed impacts can result in severe or life-altering injuries for motorcyclists. Common issues include fractures, lacerations, and head trauma. In this particular case, the officer’s protective gear and swift emergency response may have limited the severity of his wounds.
Motorcycle accidents often stem from drivers failing to see or yield to smaller vehicles, especially in high-traffic or unpredictable situations. Lane-splitting, while legal under specific conditions in California, can also spark conflicts if drivers change lanes abruptly or do not check their blind spots. Additionally, speeding on either party’s part amplifies the risk of catastrophic harm. Investigators typically review road conditions, vehicle positions, and witness statements to assign fault.
When injuries occur, medical expenses and lost income can pile up, leaving victims or their families in financial turmoil. Securing fair compensation requires demonstrating that another party’s negligence directly contributed to the collision. This can entail obtaining traffic camera footage, dashcam videos, or police findings. In the case of law enforcement officers, departmental reports and official records can carry significant weight, but every scenario differs.
