Rancho Cucamonga, CA (February 20, 2025) – Dashcam video captured a motorcyclist being struck by a hit-and-run driver in San Bernardino County.
On Tuesday, the witness who recorded the crash was driving on the 15 Freeway in Rancho Cucamonga during the morning commute. A black Subaru sedan ahead of him suddenly merged into another lane and struck a nearby motorcyclist, sending the biker tumbling onto the road. EMTs later transported the man to a hospital.
A spokesperson with California Highway Patrol’s Rancho Cucamonga Office confirmed an officer located the suspect driver within an hour of the report and collected a statement from them. Authorities have indicated that drugs and alcohol were not suspected to be factors in the incident. However, no further details were released.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family members at this time.
Motorcycle crashes resulting in injuries are a persistent issue on California's roads, underscoring the vulnerability of motorcyclists in traffic. California’s diverse landscapes and extensive highways make it a motorcyclist’s dream, but they also come with inherent risks. The state’s high traffic volumes, combined with the exposure of riding a motorcycle, increase the likelihood of severe injuries in an accident.
The California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) reports that thousands of motorcyclists are injured every year in crashes, often due to factors such as distracted driving, speeding, and failure to see motorcycles in blind spots. Motorcyclists have far less protection compared to drivers of enclosed vehicles, leaving them susceptible to serious injuries such as broken bones, spinal cord injuries, and traumatic brain injuries. Even with protective gear like helmets and reinforced clothing, the impact of a crash can result in life-altering consequences.
Moreover, injury-causing motorcycle accidents frequently occur at intersections, where drivers may fail to yield or misjudge a motorcyclist’s speed and distance. Weather conditions, road hazards, and inadequate infrastructure can further exacerbate the risks faced by riders.
