Palo Alto, CA (October 30, 2025) – A major multi-vehicle car accident left one person seriously injured on Wednesday morning on the southbound US-101 near the University Avenue off-ramp in Palo Alto, according to the California Highway Patrol. The incident occurred at approximately 10:58 a.m. and involved at least four vehicles, including a gray Honda Civic and a silver Mazda sedan.
CHP reports indicate that two of the vehicles sustained severe front and rear-end damage upon impact. One car collided with the highway sound wall, while the remaining vehicles came to rest near the off-ramp. Airbags were deployed in multiple vehicles due to the force of the crash.
Paramedics and emergency units quickly arrived on scene and located a male driver who had exited his vehicle and collapsed near the roadway. He was treated for major injuries, including a possible broken nose, before being transported to a nearby hospital for further medical care. His condition remains undisclosed at this time.
The University Ave off-ramp was temporarily shut down as emergency personnel assessed the scene, cleared debris, and removed the damaged vehicles. Traffic delays were reported throughout the late morning as cleanup crews worked to reopen lanes and restore normal flow on US-101. Tow trucks were dispatched to remove the heavily damaged vehicles from the area.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the collision. The California Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation and will evaluate whether speed, distraction, or following distance played a role in the crash.
We wish the victim and everyone involved a speedy recovery.

Traffic collisions are a frequent concern along US-101 and nearby Bay Area routes, where congestion, merging lanes, and sudden braking often increase the risk of chain reaction crashes. Even with modern vehicle safety systems, multi-vehicle accidents can result in serious injuries, especially when multiple cars are involved in high-speed impacts.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, Santa Clara County sees hundreds of injury-causing crashes each year, with rear-end and side impact collisions among the most common. Many of these accidents are attributed to driver distraction, fatigue, or tailgating in dense traffic conditions.
