Palmdale, CA (November 2, 2025) – A pedestrian was killed early Saturday morning, November 1, following a suspected DUI hit-and-run crash at the intersection of 20th Street East and Avenue R in Palmdale. Reports indicate that deputies from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station responded to the scene at approximately 4:15 a.m. after receiving alerts of a pedestrian collision involving a light blue sedan.
Upon arrival, responding deputies discovered the pedestrian unresponsive in the roadway. The individual had reportedly been pushing a shopping cart and attempting to cross the street against a red traffic signal when they were struck by the vehicle. Despite an immediate emergency assessment, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Authorities stated that the driver of the vehicle fled the location without rendering aid or notifying law enforcement. Following a coordinated search, deputies later located the involved vehicle, identified as a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis, within the Palmdale area. The driver was subsequently arrested on multiple felony charges.
Investigators confirmed that alcohol was a contributing factor in the fatal collision. The vehicle was impounded as part of the ongoing investigation. Officials have not yet disclosed the names of the victim or the suspect, pending notification of next of kin and continued investigative procedures.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the victim during this difficult time.
Pedestrian fatalities remain a significant concern across Los Angeles County, particularly when combined with impaired driving. According to data from the California Office of Traffic Safety, alcohol-involved collisions continue to account for a substantial portion of roadway deaths statewide. Palmdale’s growing population and high-traffic intersections contribute to an increased risk of pedestrian-related incidents.
Collisions of this nature often occur during early morning or late-night hours, when reduced visibility and driver impairment play a greater role. Drivers are reminded to exercise caution by obeying all traffic signals, avoiding distractions, and never operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Pedestrians are encouraged to use designated crosswalks and remain alert to approaching vehicles.
Families affected by DUI-related crashes may be entitled to pursue compensation through wrongful death claims, which can provide financial relief for medical expenses, funeral costs, and other related damages. Legal guidance is essential to navigate these complex cases and ensure that those responsible are held fully accountable.
