Oxnard, CA (November 20, 2025) – Four people were injured Tuesday night, November 18, following a police pursuit that ended in a collision in Oxnard, according to authorities in Ventura County.
The incident began just before 8:30 p.m. when officers with the Port Hueneme Police Department attempted to stop a driver for a traffic violation on Bard Road. The driver refused to pull over, prompting a short pursuit. However, officers discontinued the chase out of safety concerns.
A few minutes later, a crash was reported at the intersection of J Street and Redwood Street in Oxnard, involving the fleeing vehicle and another car. The driver and a passenger in the suspect’s car, along with two occupants in the other vehicle, sustained injuries. Fortunately, none of the injuries were considered life-threatening.
The suspect, identified as Juan Jose Rodriguez of Oxnard, was arrested at the scene. He faces multiple charges, including DUI, evading police, resisting arrest, and violating a restraining order.
Authorities are continuing their investigation into the events that led up to the crash.

Pursuits initiated by law enforcement often involve high-speed and unpredictable behavior, which significantly increases the risk of a crash. When a suspect attempts to flee from police and disregards traffic laws, it places not only officers at risk but also innocent drivers, pedestrians, and passengers.
In this case, the pursuit ended with a multi-vehicle crash in a residential part of Oxnard, leaving four individuals injured. While none of the injuries were life-threatening, victims of such incidents often face physical, emotional, and financial challenges in the aftermath of the event. Common injuries in collisions following pursuits may include whiplash, broken bones, head trauma, and soft tissue damage—all of which can require weeks or even months of recovery.
Victims injured in crashes caused by a fleeing driver may have the right to pursue compensation under California law. Personal injury claims can help recover damages for medical expenses, lost wages, property damage, pain and suffering, and more. However, these cases can become legally complex, especially when law enforcement involvement or multiple parties are part of the chain of events.
An experienced car accident attorney can be essential in determining liability, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and pursuing compensation from all responsible parties, including the fleeing driver and their insurance provider. In some cases, government entities may also be involved if protocols were not followed during the pursuit.
