Oakland, CA – Woman Killed in Semi-Truck Collision on I-880 Near Hegenberger Rd

Oakland, CA (August 24, 2025) – A 24-year-old woman lost her life early Saturday morning, August 23, after a collision with a semi-truck on the Interstate 880 Freeway.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the crash happened just before 3:45 a.m. on the southbound side of the freeway near Hegenberger Road, close to the Oakland Coliseum. A Honda Fit collided with a Freightliner Cascadia big rig, leaving the Honda disabled in the second lane of traffic.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene and provided aid to the woman driving the Honda. Despite life-saving efforts, she died from her injuries. Her name has not yet been released, as authorities are waiting to notify her family.

The driver of the semi-truck remained at the crash site and cooperated with CHP officers. Investigators confirmed that the truck driver was not impaired. It remains unclear whether alcohol or drugs played a role on the part of the Honda driver.

All lanes of the southbound I-880 were closed for about 90 minutes during the investigation but later reopened.
