Oakland, CA - Fatal Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving Big Rig on I-580 E

Oakland, CA (June 28, 2025) – A fatal collision involving multiple vehicles, including a semi-truck, claimed one life in the early morning hours Friday in Oakland. The deadly incident took place on June 27 at approximately 3:32 a.m. on the eastbound Interstate 580 near the Buchanan Street offramp.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to reports of a crash involving a big rig, a gray Hyundai sedan, and another vehicle. When they arrived, they discovered at least one occupant unresponsive inside a severely damaged vehicle blocking multiple lanes. Despite efforts from emergency crews, one person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The collision created significant debris across lanes two and three, forcing a complete closure of the affected portion of the freeway. Certified towing and hazmat crews were called in to help clear the scene and manage fluids and debris. Additional evidence tows were requested for all involved vehicles, including the heavily damaged tractor-trailer, which sustained major front-end damage.

A SigAlert was issued while investigators worked for hours to document the scene and determine what factors led to this tragic event. By mid-morning, all lanes were reopened, but the cause of the crash remains under investigation at this time.
