Monrovia, CA – Man Struck and Killed on 210 Fwy

Monrovia, CA (August 16, 2025) – A tragic incident occurred Thursday, August 14, when a man was struck and killed by a vehicle on the 210 Freeway in Monrovia, after running from an immigration raid at a Home Depot. Authorities report that the accident took place shortly after the individual fled the scene of an operation conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Dylan Feik, the city manager of Monrovia, explained that the incident unfolded when a police officer, who had received a call about the ICE activity in the area, witnessed the raid. During this time, the individual ran onto the busy 210 Freeway. Emergency responders were dispatched shortly afterward, following a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian on the freeway.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but later succumbed to the injuries sustained in the collision. The California Highway Patrol confirmed the man’s death and stated that the circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation. The victim’s identity has not been publicly released.

In a video captured immediately following the crash, a man in a black T-shirt was seen lying near the inside lane of the freeway, raising concern among witnesses who initially believed the incident involved a motorcycle accident.

The Department of Homeland Security has denied that their agents chased the man and confirmed they are unaware of his legal status. The city of Monrovia has not received further communication from ICE regarding this operation, and additional details about any detentions remain unclear.

Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the man who lost his life in this tragic incident. We wish them strength and peace during this difficult time.

The Impact of Freeway Accidents and Roadway Safety Concerns

Accidents on busy highways, like the 210 Freeway, can be particularly dangerous due to the high speeds and heavy traffic often present. When pedestrians enter freeways, whether intentionally or accidentally, the risk of a fatal collision increases significantly. It's crucial that drivers remain alert, especially near areas where pedestrians may be crossing or approaching the roadway.

For those involved in incidents on or near freeways, emergency responders and police officers play a vital role in securing the area, directing traffic, and providing aid to victims. In this case, the swift actions of first responders were critical, though, unfortunately, the injuries sustained by the man were fatal.

Pedestrian safety on highways is a significant concern, and both drivers and pedestrians must follow all safety guidelines to prevent similar tragedies. For pedestrians, avoiding entering highways and sticking to designated crosswalks or areas is essential. Drivers, on the other hand, should always be vigilant for unexpected obstacles, especially during busy times or in areas with limited visibility.
