Los Angeles, CA - Pedestrian Hit & Injured on 110 Fwy at Expo Blvd

Los Angeles, CA (July 15, 2025) – A pedestrian crash involving a person walking along the 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles led to the closure of all northbound lanes early Tuesday morning, July 15.

According to a CHP spokesperson, the crash was reported at 4:54 a.m. on the 110 just north of Exposition Boulevard. Per the CHP incident log, responding officers requested a hard closure at 5:03 a.m., and traffic on all northbound lanes was initially blocked off in the area completely. A SigAlert was issued that was expected to last until at least 8:00 a.m. More lanes were expected to be opened shortly after the medical examiner left the scene.

It's not clear what led up to the crash. However, no further information was provided, and the current condition of the person hit is unknown. An investigation remains ongoing in the interim.

Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family members.

Pedestrian Accidents in California

California consistently reports more pedestrian-involved accidents than any other state, as thousands of people are injured each year while walking on or near roadways. Contributing factors include dense traffic, distracted driving, and the presence of wide arterial roads that are not always pedestrian-friendly.

To better understand the dangers pedestrians face, let’s explore some of the most overlooked contributing elements:

  • Inattentive Driving in Commercial Zones: Shopping areas and business districts tend to attract large numbers of pedestrians. Drivers distracted by stores or searching for parking may overlook individuals crossing the road.
  • Limited Reaction Time: Even at moderate speeds, drivers have very little time to react if a pedestrian suddenly steps into the road. Vehicles traveling at 35 mph can require over 100 feet to stop safely.
  • Wide Multi-Lane Roads: These roadways may have long stretches without marked crossings, forcing pedestrians to take risks when attempting to get across. Drivers often speed or focus only on nearby vehicles in these areas.
  • Pedestrian Assumptions: Some walkers assume that vehicles will stop simply because they are present in a crosswalk. Unfortunately, many drivers fail to notice crosswalks or are unsure about yielding laws, leading to unnecessary accidents.
  • Aging Infrastructure: Many urban road designs were created with only vehicles in mind. Crosswalks may be faded, signal times may be too short, and curb ramps might be absent, all increasing the risk of injury.
