Los Angeles, CA (January 21, 2026) – A Los Angeles police officer was injured in a crash overnight on Tuesday, January 20, in the Exposition Park area. The collision happened just before 12:45 a.m. at Exposition Blvd and Western Ave, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Video from the scene showed damage to the officer’s patrol vehicle and a Mazda SUV. Officials have not released details about what led up to the crash. Emergency units responded, and the officer was taken to a hospital in stable condition.
It was not immediately clear whether the other driver was injured. Authorities said no arrests were made in connection with the crash. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
Our thoughts remain with the injured officer as recovery continues.
Late-night intersection crashes can happen quickly because visibility is reduced, and drivers may have less time to react. Intersections require drivers to watch signals, turning vehicles, and cross traffic at the same time. When a crash occurs at higher speeds, the impact can lead to serious injuries for people inside both vehicles. Glare from headlights or streetlights can also make it harder to judge distance and movement. Drivers may misread a light change or fail to notice another vehicle entering the intersection. Even a brief distraction can be enough for a crash to happen in seconds.
In these accidents, victims may suffer head injuries, neck and back trauma, and painful bruising. Some people also experience injuries caused by airbags, sudden seatbelt force, or being struck from the side. Medical evaluations can help identify injuries early and provide documentation for follow-up care. Symptoms like stiffness, headaches, or dizziness may not show up until hours later. Doctors may recommend imaging to check for concussions or internal injuries that are not obvious right away. Keeping medical paperwork organized can also help support future appointments and ongoing treatment.
A car accident lawyer can help explain what options may be available after an injury crash at an intersection. Legal guidance may include reviewing available reports, collecting medical documentation, and explaining what types of compensation a person may be eligible to seek depending on the situation. A lawyer can also help handle communication with insurers while records are gathered.
