Motor Vehicle Crashes in California
Motor vehicle crashes are all too common on California’s highways, rural roads, and city streets. The aftermath can upend lives—serious injuries, steep medical bills, lost wages, and lingering emotional stress. Knowing your legal rights and options is essential to regaining physical, financial, and mental stability.
California follows a fault-based system. Injured drivers and passengers may pursue compensation for medical treatment, income loss, vehicle repairs, and emotional distress. Because the state uses comparative negligence, you can still recover damages if you share some blame, though any award is reduced by your percentage of fault.
Quick action strengthens your case. Seek medical care, request a police report, and safeguard evidence—photos, witness statements, and anything else that shows how the crash happened. And remember: you generally have only two years from the accident date to file a personal injury claim.
Collisions on high-speed corridors such as State Route 14 often cause especially grave harm, saddling victims with long recoveries and overwhelming expenses.
