Los Angeles, CA (December 13, 2024) – The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a fatal hit-and-run traffic collision that killed a pedestrian in Westlake earlier this week.
A man who was in an alley west of Westlake Avenue and north of Wilshire Boulevard was struck by a silver Nissan Sentra traveling southbound in the alley around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Paramedics with the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to the scene.
The LAPD said that the drivers failed to stop, identify themselves, or render aid. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. His name is being withheld pending identification and notification of next of kin by the LA County Coroner's office while the investigation proceeds.
We offer our deepest condolences to the deceased victim's family.
Pedestrian accidents are a significant concern in California, often resulting in severe injuries or fatalities. Factors such as distracted driving, speeding, and failure to yield contribute to these tragic incidents. Under California law, pedestrians generally have the right of way at crosswalks and intersections. When a driver’s negligence leads to a pedestrian's injury or death, victims or their families may pursue compensation through personal injury or wrongful death claims.
Damages can cover medical expenses, lost wages, and non-economic losses like pain and suffering. California operates under a comparative negligence system, allowing injured parties to recover damages even if they are partially at fault, with compensation adjusted accordingly. The statute of limitations for personal injury claims is two years from the date of the accident, making prompt legal action crucial.
Thankfully, it is possible to negotiate the complexities of these cases with the assistance of an experienced personal injury attorney, who can also ensure that the rights of victims are respected and that they obtain compensation that is rightfully theirs.
