Long Beach, CA (November 4, 2025) – Authorities are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that occurred on Monday evening, November 3, near Carver Elementary School in Long Beach.
According to emergency radio dispatch, officers and firefighters responded under a Code 3 emergency at approximately 12:00 a.m. to the area between Rutgers Avenue and Pageantry Street, near East Pavo Street, following reports of a vehicle-versus-pedestrian collision. Upon arrival, first responders located a female pedestrian in her 30s suffering from severe injuries after being struck by a vehicle.
Multiple emergency units, including fire and medical crews, were dispatched to the scene under 901T and 901K protocols, indicating a major traffic collision with serious injuries and a confirmed fatality. Despite immediate life-saving efforts by paramedics, the woman was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and cooperated with law enforcement. The roadway was closed for several hours as police and accident reconstruction specialists examined the scene, documented evidence, and gathered witness statements. Preliminary information suggests that visibility and roadway conditions may have contributed to the crash, though the official cause remains under investigation.
The Long Beach Police Department is leading the inquiry to determine whether impairment, distraction, or speed played a role in the fatal incident.
We extend our deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the woman who tragically lost her life in this collision.
Fatal Pedestrian Accidents in Long Beach
Pedestrian fatalities continue to be a growing concern across Los Angeles County and surrounding regions, including Long Beach. Incidents near schools, intersections, and residential streets often occur during early morning or evening hours when visibility is reduced. Pedestrians are especially vulnerable in these settings, with limited protection against severe impact injuries.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, Long Beach consistently ranks among cities with a high rate of pedestrian injuries and deaths each year. Contributing factors often include distracted driving, speeding, and inadequate lighting along pedestrian routes. When such tragedies occur, the emotional and financial toll on families can be devastating, leaving them with medical bills, funeral costs, and an overwhelming sense of loss.
In fatal pedestrian collisions, families may pursue legal claims to hold negligent drivers accountable and recover compensation for wrongful death damages. Legal representation can also assist with insurance claims and ensure that victims’ rights are fully protected throughout the investigative process.
