Long Beach, CA (May 19, 2025) – An Inland Empire man died on May 18 when he was struck by two cars while crossing the street in Long Beach, police said.
Police say the man was crossing Pacific Coast Highway near Santa Fe Avenue when he was hit by a driver going westbound just before 9:00 p.m. The man was then struck by a second driver also going westbound on PCH, according to the Long Beach Police Department. In the meantime, witnesses were requested to come forward if they had any further information on the accident, and the inquiry is currently underway.
Our condolences are with the deceased man's family members at this time.
California streets remain dangerous for those on foot, with speeding, inattentive driving, and failure to yield at intersections combining to produce life-altering or life-ending collisions. State law generally grants pedestrians the right-of-way in crosswalks, yet drivers often misjudge braking distance or glance at a phone instead of the road, leaving victims little chance to step clear.
Injured pedestrians, or the families of those lost, may file personal-injury or wrongful-death actions seeking compensation for hospital bills, future rehabilitation, lost income, and intangible harms such as grief and diminished quality of life. Because California applies pure comparative negligence, recovery is still possible when a pedestrian shares some blame (for instance, crossing against a light); any award is simply reduced by that percentage. Most claims must be filed within two years of the crash, so waiting risks forfeiting legal rights altogether.
Retaining seasoned pedestrian-injury counsel helps level the field against insurance carriers intent on minimizing payouts. An attorney can secure traffic-camera footage, interview eyewitnesses, consult accident-reconstruction specialists, and document long-term care needs before negotiations begin. At Countrywide Trial Lawyers, we shoulder those tasks so clients can focus on healing, pursuing every avenue to obtain the financial support a family needs to rebuild after a devastating street-corner impact.
