Las Lomas, CA (January 18, 2025) – Troopers with the California Highway Patrol said that one person was killed early Friday, January 17, in the Las Lomas area.
The CHP reports that a man was driving a white Toyota pickup eastbound on Hall Road and approaching Las Lomas Drive at approximately 5:30 p.m. when he struck a 40-year-old man from Watsonville near the intersection of Hall Road and Las Lomas Drive.
The pickup truck pulled over, and the pedestrian fell to the ground in the eastbound lane of Hall Road. At the same time, a gray Ford sedan was traveling eastbound on Hall Road. The sedan was unable to avoid hitting the pedestrian, and the front of the Ford hit the pedestrian, according to the CHP. The pedestrian died of his injuries, officers confirmed. In the meantime, witnesses were requested to come forward if they had any further information on the accident, and the inquiry is currently underway.
We offer our deepest condolences to the deceased man's loved ones.
Pedestrian accidents are on the rise in the United States and can lead to fatalities or serious injuries. Acceleration, inability to yield, and inattentive driving are some of the causes that contribute to these terrible accidents. In California, pedestrians are typically given the right-of-way at crossings and crosswalks. In cases where a pedestrian is hurt or loses their life due to a driver's carelessness, victims or their relatives may file personal injury or unlawful death lawsuits.
Damages may be granted to cover medical costs in addition to non-economic losses like pain and suffering. California's comparative negligence system, which permits injured parties to get damages even if they bear some of the fault, adjusts compensation. Since personal injury lawsuits have a two-year statute of limitations from the date of the accident, prompt legal action is crucial.
