Lancaster, CA - Multiple People Injured in Bus Accident on Sierra Hwy

Lancaster, CA - Multiple People Injured in Bus Accident on Sierra Hwy

Lancaster, CA (July 2, 2025) – Multiple people were injured after a bus overturned in Lancaster on Tuesday afternoon, authorities say.

The Los Angeles County Fire Department said it received calls around 11:17 a.m. about a crash involving a bus near Sierra Highway and Avenue C.

First responders reported that nearly 20 people were injured, including the driver of the bus, who was in critical condition at a hospital in the Antelope Valley. Among those hospitalized were two children and their mother, all of whom were airlifted to Northridge Medical Center, according to the California Highway Patrol. According to Kern Public Works, the bus was operating on the Line 50 Route and belongs to Kern Transit.

That said, an investigation is still ongoing in the meantime, and it's unclear if anybody else was hurt. No further details were released.

Our thoughts are with the injured victims. We hope for their full recovery at this time.

Bus Accidents in California

Buses move thousands of Californians every day—whether on public transit routes, school runs, sightseeing tours, or corporate shuttles—but a crash involving one of these 30-to-40-foot vehicles can leave a wide swath of devastation. Sheer weight, high passenger counts, and limited maneuverability mean even a low-speed impact can cause life-altering injuries to riders, pedestrians, cyclists, and occupants of smaller cars.

Common causes include fatigued or distracted driving, inadequate driver training, poor fleet maintenance, and slick or poorly designed roadways. Unlike typical two-car accidents, bus collisions often produce multiple injury claims and several potential defendants: a negligent driver, the private company or public agency that hired or trained the driver, a third-party maintenance contractor, or even a government entity responsible for dangerous road conditions. When the bus is operated by a city or county transit system, special notice requirements and tight filing deadlines apply—miss them, and your claim could be barred.

If you or someone you love is hurt in a bus crash, seek medical care immediately, then move quickly to protect your legal rights. Collect photos, eyewitness contacts, and incident reports if you can, but remember: an attorney can subpoena bus-camera footage, maintenance logs, GPS data, and driving-hour records that are often critical to proving fault.

Under California law, compensation may include hospital bills, future medical treatment, lost earnings, diminished earning capacity, and the very real pain, suffering, and emotional distress that follow a serious collision. Because the state follows comparative-fault rules, you can still recover damages even if you share some responsibility—your award is reduced by your percentage of fault.
