La Mesa, CA (September 18, 2025) – Two people were injured, and one driver was arrested following a DUI crash late on September 17 in La Mesa. The La Mesa Police Department confirmed the collision happened around 11:19 p.m. at the intersection of Massachusetts Avenue and University Avenue.
Authorities reported that a 33-year-old San Diego man was driving a black Acura sedan when he collided with a silver Chevrolet sedan in the intersection. The impact caused damage to both vehicles and left the drivers injured.
Emergency crews responded to the scene and transported the Acura driver to Sharp Grossmont Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The driver of the Chevrolet sustained minor injuries but declined medical transport. Both drivers were the only occupants in their vehicles at the time of the crash.
The La Mesa Police Department is actively investigating the incident and has not yet released further details regarding potential charges beyond the DUI arrest.
We hope the injured parties make a timely recovery.

DUI-related crashes remain one of the most preventable yet devastating causes of injury and death on California roads. Each year, thousands of people are injured or killed because someone chose to drive while impaired. The La Mesa crash serves as another reminder of how dangerous and costly impaired driving can be.
Driving under the influence slows reaction times, impairs judgment, and reduces coordination. Even small amounts of alcohol or drugs can significantly increase the risk of a crash. In many cases, DUI accidents result in severe injuries to innocent drivers and passengers, as well as costly property damage.
