Fresno, CA (June 15, 2025) – One person was killed and three were injured in a vehicle crash that took place on Saturday night, June 14, in Fresno County.
California Highway Patrol officers determined alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash, and the driver was placed under arrest for felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence. He will be booked into Fresno County Jail when he is discharged from the hospital.
CHP officers responded to the crash at 7:15 p.m. on Trimmer Springs Road, north of Lakeview Avenue. Following the crash, which involved an unknown number of vehicles, officers stated that a 40-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and two additional passengers sustained injuries ranging from minor to moderate and were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, an investigation is still ongoing.
Our deepest condolences are with the deceased victim's family members. Our thoughts are also with the injured victims and their loved ones in hopes of their full recovery.
Alcohol-impaired driving remains one of the most common—and preventable—triggers of multi-vehicle crashes in California. Each year, thousands of collisions involve drivers whose blood-alcohol concentration (BAC) is at or above the 0.08 percent legal limit, and even “buzzed” motorists below that threshold can experience slowed reaction times and poor judgment.
When a DUI motorist initiates a chain-reaction crash, civil liability is typically clear-cut: a criminal conviction or failed breathalyzer test provides powerful evidence of negligence, and juries may award punitive damages to punish especially reckless conduct. In some circumstances, additional claims may arise against bars or restaurants that overserved a visibly intoxicated patron, or against rideshare companies that failed to screen a driver’s prior DUI history.
Multi-vehicle crashes are an everyday risk on California’s highways, often leaving victims to cope with extensive property damage, severe injuries, and lasting emotional stress. Under state law, anyone hurt by a careless or chemically impaired driver may seek compensation for medical bills, lost wages, pain, and other losses. Because California follows a comparative-fault system, you can still recover damages even if you share some responsibility—your award is simply reduced by your percentage of fault.
Act quickly after a collision. Prompt medical care, detailed photographs, witness statements, and a timely police report all help protect your rights and preserve crucial evidence. In DUI cases, insist that responding officers conduct sobriety testing and note any signs of impairment; request copies of arrest records, breath or blood test results, and dash-cam footage as soon as they are available. Remember, most personal injury lawsuits must be filed within two years of the crash.
