Cabazon, CA (November 11, 2025) – A pedestrian sustained major injuries on Monday, November 10, after being struck by a big rig on Interstate 10, just east of Main Street in Cabazon.
According to preliminary information released by the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. when a 64-year-old man from Beaumont was walking near the eastbound lanes of the interstate. For reasons still under investigation, the pedestrian was hit by an oncoming semi-truck traveling along the corridor.
Emergency crews responded promptly to the scene, providing medical assistance to the injured pedestrian before rushing him to a nearby hospital for further treatment. The man reportedly suffered major injuries as a result of the impact.
Authorities temporarily restricted traffic along the affected section of the freeway to allow paramedics and investigators to operate safely. The big rig driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officials during the preliminary investigation.
At this time, the California Highway Patrol has not released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the crash. Investigators are working to determine whether any contributing factors, such as visibility, driver attention, or pedestrian movement, played a role in the collision.
The investigation into the cause of this incident remains active.
We extend our best wishes to the injured pedestrian and hope for a full and swift recovery.
Pedestrian accidents involving large commercial vehicles are among the most severe traffic incidents, often resulting in catastrophic or life-threatening injuries. In regions such as Cabazon, where Interstate 10 serves as a major trucking route, pedestrians face significant risks due to the high volume and speed of semi-truck traffic.
According to the California Office of Traffic Safety, collisions involving big rigs or other heavy vehicles are far more likely to cause serious harm because of the vehicles’ size, weight, and extended stopping distances. Even at lower speeds, the impact of a commercial truck can result in extensive trauma to pedestrians, including broken bones, internal injuries, and head trauma.
Truck drivers are required to exercise heightened caution on major routes, maintaining safe speeds and scanning for pedestrians, particularly near highway access points or rest areas. Likewise, pedestrians are urged to stay clear of high-traffic corridors whenever possible and to use designated crossings where available.
Victims injured in pedestrian-truck collisions may be entitled to compensation for medical bills, rehabilitation costs, and other damages if negligence contributed to the crash. California law provides avenues for pursuing such claims to help victims recover physically and financially from these devastating events.
