Barstow, CA - Fatal Wrong-Way Collision on I-15 at Zzyzx Rd Under Inquiry

Barstow, CA (June 29, 2025) – A deadly crash involving a wrong-way driver early Sunday morning shut down the southbound I-15 near Zzyzx Road, prompting a Sig Alert. The incident was reported at approximately 4:22 a.m. on June 29.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP) incident logs, one of the vehicles involved was traveling the wrong way on the freeway prior to the collision. The crash involved at least two vehicles. One, a red Kia sedan, was located down an embankment on the right-hand shoulder. Another vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage.

By 5:28 a.m., a request was made for the San Bernardino County Coroner’s Office, confirming that at least one fatality occurred as a result of the crash. In the meantime, the CHP is asking anyone who witnessed the crash to contact them with information that could help with their investigation.
