Bakersfield, CA – 2 Killed in Semi-Truck Collision at Hwy 65 & Famoso Rd

Bakersfield, CA (September 21, 2025) – On Saturday, September 20, a fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Highway 65 and Famoso Road, resulting in the deaths of two individuals. The crash involved a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck and caused significant roadway closures in both directions.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred when a 76-year-old man driving a 2016 Honda Fit eastbound on Famoso Road failed to stop at a posted stop sign before entering the intersection. At that time, a 55-year-old man operating a 2014 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling southbound on Highway 65. The Freightliner struck the Honda on its driver’s side, leading to a devastating impact.

The force of the collision caused the Honda to veer out of control before coming to rest on the east dirt shoulder of the roadway. Meanwhile, the Freightliner lost control after the crash, struck a dirt embankment, and overturned, leaving the southbound lane blocked and partially obstructing the northbound lane.

Emergency personnel responded quickly, but the driver of the Honda and his 66-year-old female passenger sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Freightliner suffered injuries described as minor to moderate and was transported to Kern Medical Hospital for treatment.
