Antioch, CA (August 9, 2025) – A tragic pedestrian accident occurred on Wednesday night on eastbound State Highway 4 near the Somersville Road exit, resulting in the death of a man. The collision was reported around 7:35 p.m. on August 6, when the pedestrian walked into traffic, leading to two vehicles striking him.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the man entered the highway from the right shoulder and proceeded to the far left lane. It was at this point that a Ford van struck him. The impact caused the pedestrian to fall into the far left lane, where a Subaru Forester, traveling directly behind the van, also collided with him.

Authorities have stated that the first collision appeared unavoidable, as the pedestrian walked directly in front of the Ford van. Despite rescue attempts by paramedics and CHP officers, the man died at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending the notification of his next of kin.
