Los Angeles, CA (August 7, 2025) – Ana Veronica Ramos, 68, is one of two people who died Monday afternoon in a violent head-on crash on Wentworth Street in the Shadow Hills area of Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fatal collision occurred around 3:45 p.m. on Wentworth Street, just west of Wheatland Avenue. LAFD officials say both vehicles sustained significant damage, and one occupant was found deceased in each car. William Hungerford, 54, was later identified as the second driver who died. Emergency responders arrived to find both victims trapped in the wreckage. The cause of the collision remains under investigation, however, and the LAPD Valley Traffic Division is handling the case.
We extend our sincere condolences to the deceased victims' family members. Our thoughts are also with the injured victims and their loved ones in hopes of their fast recovery.
Head-on collisions, or wrong-way accidents, are among the most catastrophic crashes on California’s roadways. These accidents typically occur when a driver veers into oncoming traffic, often due to distraction, impairment, excessive speed, or fatigue. California’s winding mountain passes, congested urban streets, and high-speed freeways create particularly dangerous conditions when drivers fail to safely navigate curves, merge lanes, or respond to changing traffic patterns. Inclement weather and poorly marked construction zones only heighten the risk.
Due to the combined impact of two vehicles traveling in opposite directions, head-on collisions frequently result in devastating injuries or fatalities. Victims may suffer traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord damage, multiple fractures, or internal organ trauma—often requiring extensive medical care and long-term rehabilitation. For families, the aftermath can include not only emotional grief but also mounting financial burdens from hospital bills, funeral expenses, and lost income.
Determining fault in a head-on collision is rarely straightforward. Liability may rest with a negligent driver, but road design flaws, poor signage, or maintenance failures can also play a role. Proving responsibility often requires a detailed review of the police report, eyewitness statements, skid mark patterns, vehicle damage, and traffic camera footage.
If you’ve lost a loved one or suffered serious injuries in a head-on crash, taking immediate steps is critical. Seek medical and emotional support, gather documentation of the accident scene, and contact a personal injury attorney as soon as possible. Under California law, you may be entitled to compensation for your losses—including medical expenses, funeral and burial costs, pain and suffering, and more.
